Tianquan is located in the evergreen broad-leaved forest zone of central subtropical zone in semi-humid evergreen broad-leaved forest area. The evergreen broad-leaved forest grows well, with rich species composition and complex community structure. Along with the elevation of topography and the change of climate, the vegetation community and plant species are distributed vertically regularly in the areas above 1,500m altitude. The zone of low mountains, hills, river valleys and flat lands is located at 600-1,500m altitude, mainly the low mountains and hills, followed by the agriculture areas of river valleys and flats lands. In addition to the fast-growing weeds in shaded lands and beside ditches, the natural vegetation includes such underbrush as Coriaria sinica, reeds and ferns and such trees as fir, alder, masson pine, and cypress. The area of middle mountains, river valleys and deep hills is lactated at 1,500-3,000m altitude, and the natural vegetation includes such trees as fir, oak, Celastrus angulatus and dove tree, and such shrubs as hickory, azalea and Chinese rose. The zone of middle mountain plateau is located at 1,800-3,500m, with dense forests and rich wild resources, including shrubs, underbrush, deciduous broad-leaved forest, ground cover, etc. The alpine zone is located over 3,500m and mainly has fir, alpine shrubs, alpine Melia azedarach, and alpine meadows.
Tianquan County is located at the western margin of Sichuan Basin, the eastern foothills of Erlang Mountain, the southern section of Qionglai Mountains, and the eastern end of the Kangba Culture area.
